Greenday | Nimrod
"Nimrod" is Green Days 5th album to date, their
3rd Major label album with two more left in their
contract at Reprise Records. It sees Green Day expanding
thier bounderies and experimenting with new sounds. Many
people could say they are straying from their punk roots,
but if it means that all of their albums turn out like
this, I could not care less.
This in my personal opinion is Green Day's best overal
album to date, with 18 solid songs. Even the b-sides to
singles are faultless. The album is also home to Green
Day's biggest hit to date, Good Riddance (Time of Your
Life). Even though it didnt reach no.1 in the UK ( it
reached no.11) or USA it got played in E.R , Sienfield,
when England got knocked out of the World Cup to
Argentina plus loads more. Other classics include the
single 'Hitchin a Ride' and 'Scattered'. 'Hitchin' a
Ride' is about one of the bands favorite passtimes -
drinking, and 'Scattered' is about leaving behind people
you care about, The standard throughout this album makes
it very hard to single out perticular songs.
The lyrical standard, I believe, has always been strong
on the previous albums has been at a high standard and
this album is no exception, with clever lines like
"come together like a foot in a shoe only this time
I think I stuck my foot in my mouth"- From 'Walking
Alone', and the blunt opening line to 'Jinx', "I
Fucked up again its all my fault".
Like most Green Day albums (particularly Insomniac) the
lyrics are some what pesimistic even though the music is
classic, bouncey, pop-punk rock. numero uno!
