Worms Armageddon | Team 17
Despite it's highly cutesy-style interface and design, Worms 2 was possibly on of the most addictive games ever (only beaten to my mind by Tetris). My expectations of Worms Armageddon, however, were quite low - how could it possibly surpass Worms 2 well enough for it to be a worthy purchase?

Team 17, being the gameplay specialists that they are, have ruled out any sort of 3D version of Worms for quite some time now, simply because the gameplay would suffer at the hands of a 3D engine. Worms Armageddon, therefore, implements a slightly modified Worms 2 game engine. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Is there? In a market composed almost entirely of 3D gaming environments, all both highly realistic and atmospheric, can the 2D engine of Worms stand a chance? Yes and no. Sure, many people will buy this game, and rightly so - it's a great game. One the other hand, Team 17 haven't completely ruled out a 3D engine in the future, so eventually all our games will be played in 3D, which doesn't seem too far off.

Since Worms Armageddon will be the last 2D incarnation of Worms, Team 17 decided to go out with a bang, and have implemented all of the features, options and weapons that the frenzied fanbase have requested. The result is basically Worms 2 with all the nuts and bolts you could wish for. Aside from new weapons, features now include a fully featured level editor which allows you to import bitmap images as levels (an idea sorely missed from the original Worms), and a totally revamped menu engine which fits in with the game engine a lot better than in Worms 2 by disgarding the windows interface. More levels and comedy speech sets all add to what was an extremely polished game to begin with.

I would recommend this game to everyone, even people who already own Worms 2. While it doesn't really differ enough from it's prequels, Worms Armageddon has just about enough additions to it to make it a worthy purchase. Just make sure that you're one of those Worms 2 owners who still gets it out now again for a quick blast. If so, go ahead and buy it. If you gave up on Worms 2 long ago and haven't played it since, you'd be best off resigning yourself to playing the demo.
